Hi friends,
This month’s song is a special one for me. I had the chord progression for a while, and was just waiting on the right lyrics to come. One morning, during my normal morning routine of drinking coffee, picking on the guitar and quiet time with the Lord, I was playing though the progression with my Bible open to one of my favorite chapters, Psalm 139. The author talks about how amazingly and uniquely our Creator has made each of us, intimately forming all our details, even before we were in our mother’s womb. The chapter ends with a beautiful prayer, “Search me God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” This is a prayer that I have often meditated upon throughout my life.
As I strummed the chords the words from the prayer just seemed to fall into place. Over the following couple days I would finish the song, not completely sure of the song’s intention or message. Around this time, my Grandmother Mildred was in the hospital. At age 90, she would soon go on to be with the Lord. Our family had asked if I would play a few songs during her funeral service, and as I prepared, my new song kept coming to mind. Whenever I would play it, my thoughts would reflect upon on the memories of Grandmom. I ended up playing the song at her service, forever linking the song to her life and her lasting impact on mine.
I hope you enjoy the song, and that it can remind us all to appreciate the short time we have on the this earth, and especially the loved ones around us.
